While cruising the YouTubes, I came across a self-promotional video for Carleton Ravens head basketball coach Dave Smart, who seems to be selling himself (www.davesmartbasketball.com) and the country's top program in a two-minute, 26-second video you can view below.
It's essentially Smart's sterling resume put to music (a White Stripes base line) and a voice over (someone who sounds eerily similar to someone narrating educational films shown in high schools in the 1970s).
My favourite line read by the voice, which meticulously enunciates his script by the way, has to be:
"Even though he rides referees like a cowboy on a bronco, Smart will not countenance any bad sportsmanship from his players."
EDITOR'S NOTE: If Smart "rides referees like a cowboy on a bronco" how does one describe the actions of Guelph head basketball coach Chris O'Rourke, who extends the coach's box into the officials' collective eardrum?
Not that he needs to do anything other than allow the program and its success do the talking (winners of six of the last seven national championships), but this is a professional looking video that sells the program and the man. That's smart.
At any rate, the video's had 41 viewers, including me three times. Let's up that number now, shall we?
I was lucky enough to have a long(ish) conversation with him about recruiting when he was at a tournament I run and it was quite obvious that his philosophy was to recruit longer and harder than anyone else, regardless of the team's past success. There's a reason he reloads instead of rebuilds.

This could be the "perfect" shoe for me. Bought them to run on a mountain trail, mostly muddy and leaves/roots... I was surprised of how comfortable those are... I wear them now as my primary leisure shoe, because they look fantastic and I keep running on my older trail shoes

A man can fail many times, but he isn't a failure until he begins to blame somebody else.
