I was going to lump this in with the daily dump, err, media blitz, but it's bigger than that (pun intended). Plus, there is only one other story of note (see after the conclusion of this post).
Mary Caton of the Windsor Star reports the Windsor Lancers basketball team has officially landed seven-foot, 275-pound 23-year-old Mike Luby, an announcement watchers knew was coming.
Between injuries and situation, Luby has not played a whole lot in recent years and needs to get back in game shape.
"I'd like to be at 255 pounds (when the season starts)," he said. "I'm just a bit quicker that way."
Luby
describes himself as "an inside and outside post player. I'm more
versatile than most big guys. I can block a lot of shots and I'm not
scared to take a three pointer."
According to Caton, "Luby comes to the Lancers via a circuitous route through several junior colleges in the U.S."
I tried to map his route from Kenora, Ont. to Windsor. It's not easy.
At age 17, Luby was part of the Nike Centre of Excellence Program in Winnipeg — "I couldn't jump until I was 17. I couldn't dribble or anything until I
got older. I was just too tall and it took a lot of work to build up
that co-ordination," he told the Kenora Daily Miner in 2007.
In 2007, Luby became the first basketball player from Kenora to sign a full-ride scholarship with an NCAA Division I school — Fairleigh Dickson.
Caton reports Luby signed with Fairleigh Dickson out of high school but "had to address some academic issues."
So, instead of FD in 2007, Luby was to play for the North Dakota State College of Science, but the team found itself in trouble due to violations and Luby transferred to Chipola College in Florida, where he was a red shirt.
In 2008, it was off to Utah to play for the Salt Lake Community College Bruins.
It was in Utah where he met his wife Lauren, with whom he has a daughter.
"It
can get kind of stressful," the 23-year-old Luby said of a daunting
schedule that includes starring roles as a father, husband and fulltime
philosophy student, not to mention being part of a nationally-ranked
basketball program. (Windsor Star)
Last season, Luby played for Southeastern Iowa Blackhawks.
One person close to the Windsor program told me Luby is "good enough to start."
HOCKEYThe St. Catharines Standard reminds us the Brock Badgers' Steel Blade Tournament opens Thursday. It should offer a glimpse into the ultra-competitive West Conference. Defending tournament champ Guelph and Laurier will face off against Brock. Complete schedule in the story. And, don't forget, the Badgers will honour and remember the late Vince Scott, a teammate who died in a car crash in April.

This information is really good and I will say will always be helpful if we try it risk free. So if you can back it up.

. From that assumption, I put the hatch at roughly two feet wide. Depending on how the interior is laid out, it looks like it would be sufficiently large to carry seven people on a short duration trip.
