All us bloggers do it, so here's a daily link dump from across the province today. Read 'em and weep and then go watch the games.
• Jim Parker of the Windsor Star writes Lancers in search of ground game, but as I tweeted last night when this one came across the googles: Shouldn't they be in search of a coach?
Earlier this week during the OUA's weekly conference call Morenice said:
"If we didn't have Robert Eeuwes right now, we'd be in pretty rough shape." Wait. You relied on your kicker to beat Toronto? Really?
Anyway, generic game advance from the Lancers here.
The Queen's Golden Gaels, who haven't played since a 23-18 loss to Mac back in August, will have to wait a little longer before they kick off against the Lancers. The Gaels will celebrate their Vanier Cup win prior to the game against the Lancers on Sunday, writes Mike Koreen of the Kingston Whig-Standard.
• Christine Rivet of the Waterloo Region Record writes Laurier's OC Ryan Pyear is feeling the heat.
"Only the humble York Lions, who haven’t won a game since 2007, have scored fewer points per game than Laurier’s 12.5 average so far. More precisely, Laurier’s offence has scored one touchdown in two games."
So, might Pyear be the OUA's equivalent of Isiah Thomas, Matt Dunigan and Wayne Gretzky?
Look, it's easy to take a swipe at Pyear, but in his defence, where did coach before becoming OC? Seriously, I don't know. What I do know is he graduated in 2005 and got the gig in 2006. It's sort of typical of cash-strapped OUA/CIS programs to go with the cheap rookie hire (see: York — a thousand times over at several positions, most recently rookie OC Michael Faulds, who, like Pyear earned an OC job the season after graduating).
These young OCs and DCs need mentoring — and no, Joe Paopao doesn't count.
Morris Dalla Costa of the London Free Press has a great lead in his piece. And yesterday, his paper called it "a crucial game for Mustangs."
Mac coach Stefan Ptaszek told the Hamilton Spectator's Larry Moko "the game is pivotal."
And, in case we didn't get it, Arden Zwelling of the Western Gazette tells us the game "has playoff implications."
Oh, and Tim Micallef, you're welcome. Score plug here (does anyone else think it's a got a tad Western slant to it? — Send me the Mac version if you have one)
Don't forget, The Score has a live blog too.
Oh, and so do the 'Stangs.
ON THE ICE (THAT MEANS THESE ARE HOCKEY RELATED NOTES)
• Former Guelph Storm forward Connor O'Donnell joined the Nipissing Lakers for their second season. As an overager O'Donnell was just as entertaining off the ice as he was on it. He's going to be a media favourite, even if you can't print everything he says and does. Strange that the Ken Pagan of the North Bay Nugget doesn't note in his story the season O'Donnell spent with the Storm — it happened to be his best (8 goals, 22 assists).
Check out the link just for the photo, the picture is worth more words than the story.
A couple key players (captain Matt Lahey and Jordan Gallea) missed the Blue and White game Friday. A recap is here on BayToday.com.
According to Pagan, "Lahey has missed most of training camp while recovering from an arthroscopic knee surgery, but will begin full-contact skating soon, with plans to be ready for the season-opener" Oct. 1 versus Ryerson.
Such a good writing, or by I saw for the first time. I'm quite happy, you are a good writer
